【经济】毛原经济结构单一，仅生产蔗糖。20世纪70年代末在国际货币基金组织和世界银行的支持下，实施经济结构调整计划，形成了以糖业、出口加工业和旅游业为三大支柱的经济格局。
【工业】以制糖业和出口加工业为主。制糖是毛的传统工业，其外汇收入占总收入45%，2003年糖产量为53.5万吨；出口加工业是80年代初发展起来的新兴工业，2003年出口总值为320.6亿卢比。主要产品是纺织品、服装、钟表、珠宝首饰、仪表等。截止2003年底，加工区共有企业506家。
【农业】　全国可耕地面积为11.08万公顷，其中蔗田76186公顷，粮田5262公顷。2001年，农业产值占国内生产总值6％。粮食每年需进口20万吨左右。其他农作物有甘蔗、茶叶、烟草、洋葱、水果等。畜牧业主要饲养牛、羊、猪、鹿、鸡等。80%的奶制品和90%的牛肉依靠进口，猪肉、鸡和蔬菜基本自给。有渔业专属经济区120万平方公里，水产资源丰富。
【交通运输】以公路运输为主。没有铁路，毛政府正计划在各大城市间修建单轨铁路网。
公路：总长1880公里，其中干线886公里，城乡道路928公里，高速公路31公里。
海运：全国90%以上的进出口物资靠海运。路易港是毛唯一的国际商港，1993年被宣布为自由港，拥有5个深水码头、1个集装箱码头、1个散装糖码头和1个渔港。深水港长1320米，仓库4万平方米，每年抵离船只1000多艘。2002年，港口货物吞吐量528万吨，集装箱吞吐量246699个。
【对外贸易】　外贸是国民经济的重要组成部分。主要出口蔗糖和出口加工区产品，进口粮食及其它食品、棉毛原料、机器设备、石油产品等。同100多个国家和地区有贸易往来，毛主要贸易国是英国、美国、法国、德国、南非、印度等。截至2000年底，毛已同包括中国在内的25个国家签订了“避免双重征税协定”。
【同中国的关系】　1972年4月15日两国建交后友好合作关系发展顺利。两国政府签有经济技术合作协定、文化协定、体育协定等，并成立经济技术和贸易合作联合委员会。
2003年两国贸易额11055万美元，同比增长16.8%，其中我出口10742万美元，进口313万美元。

1.自然资源

森林资源丰富，30%的土地为森林覆盖，多桃花心木、黑紫檀木等名贵树种，岸边有高达80米以上的大麻黄林。矿藏主要是源自火山熔岩的一种雪花岩及其同类岩石。这里拥有大量供建筑用的优良石料。

2.经济简史

毛里求斯原为荷兰殖民地,经过长期斗争,终于在1968年3月12日宣布独立。该国曾是生产蔗糖的单一经济岛国。70年代，毛政府开始对经济结构进行调整，努力发展出口加工业和旅游业，经济增长比较快。独立20多年来，年平均增长率为5％，而在1965— 1989年间，年均经济增长率则达3％，人民生活明显提高，当前糖业、出口加工业和旅游业已成为经济发展的三大支柱。

3.经济概况

毛里求斯的经济以出口型的制造业、糖业和旅游业为基础。它的私有部门和许多国有企业都很强大。毛里求斯普遍缺乏有技术的劳动力，尤其在工业中更为明显。输入劳动力的百分比一直很小。由于过去十多年来被称为“出口加工区”的迅猛发展和成功地抑制人口增长，毛里求斯的失业率一直保持很低，超不过3%。过去，毛里求斯的经济十分脆弱，无力抵抗气候条件的变化和出口价格波动，影响了国家农业的出口。目前政府正通过促进对电子业、机车工业、计算机软件、制药业、塑料工业、皮鞋业、珠宝业、出版印刷业的投资来寻找弥补这一脆弱性的方法，同时整顿纺织业部门。

毛里求斯正发展成为一个地区金融中心，1989年政府建立了离岸的金融中心和路易斯港的股票交易所。毛里求斯近期的前景喜人，如果目前的政策继续实行下去，毛里求斯的中期前景也将大有希望。
